PHASE 2-WEEK 6
Day 24 started with a morning assembly to commemorate ‘National Moon Day’. There was a role-play to spread awareness on the Chandrayaan-3 mission. HM congratulated us:- student teachers, for coordinating the role- play. In my classes, I conducted an achievement test, to evaluate the students’ overall understanding of the unit ‘Hues and Views’. Majority of students showcased average performance in the test. These tests also revealed areas where students had gaps in their knowledge or difficulties with certain concepts, allowing for targeted remediation and support. On day 25, there was an essay writing and quiz competition held in our school in association with celebrating ‘National Moon Day.’ In my classes, I made my students form groups and write a news report of the shipwreck incident in their story. I also made them read their news reports. Group work fostered collaboration and teamwork, teaching students how to work effectively with others. It also encouraged sharing responsibilities, negotiating roles, and solving problems together. It also gave students an opportunity to practice communication skills, including discussing ideas, providing constructive feedback, and listening to others. These skills are essential for both academic and real-world interactions. On day 26, there was a blood donation camp happening in the school. Several teachers and staffs participated and donated their blood. In my classes, I conducted a debate session on the topic ‘Is Social Media:Good or Bad’.Debating helps students practice public speaking, improving their confidence and ability to articulate thoughts clearly and persuasively. Debates require students to analyze various viewpoints and construct logical arguments, which enhances their critical thinking skills. On day 27, there was a rocket making competition being held in the school. Several students participated and created some fine rockets using cardboards and chart papers. In my classes, I showed them my innovative model- a story board containing pictures from the chapter ‘A Shipwrecked Sailor’, in the logical sequence. The storyboard provided a visual representation of the story, which helps students better understand and remember the sequence of events and key details. By breaking down the story into individual frames, students were able to better understand the plot and grasp the narrative structure. I also collected feedbacks from my students regarding their learning experiences in my classes. The last day of my teaching practice session was quite exciting and interesting as there was a food fest happening in the school. The food fest was conducted to highlight the native and traditional delicacies of Kerala. There were a plethora of item:- from ‘fried banana fritter’ and ‘unniyappam’ to ‘Kappa’ and ‘pothichoru’.The food fest highlighting the native delicacies of Kerala was a resounding success, offering a feast for the senses and a celebration of cultural heritage. It provided a platform for students and teachers to come together, enjoy delicious food, and learn about Kerala’s rich culinary traditions. In the afternoon hours, I went to my three classes, gave sweets to my students and thanked them for teaching me how to be a teacher. It was a very emotional moment for all of us. I also gave sweets to all the teachers and HM and thanked them all for their support and guidance.
As I reflect on my final week of teaching practice, I am filled with a mix of emotions—satisfaction, happiness, and a bit of sadness. This week has been a culmination of all the hard work, learning experiences, and personal growth that I have undergone over the past weeks. This last week, I noticed a marked improvement in my ability to maintain a positive and productive classroom environment. One of the major focuses of my teaching practice was incorporating ICT into my lessons. Reflecting on this, I realized how crucial it is to integrate technology in modern teaching to cater to diverse learning styles and keep students motivated. I could also observe a significant increase in student participation and engagement. Activities such as group discussions, debates, and role-playing were met with enthusiasm. It was heartening to see students actively involved in their learning process, asking questions, and contributing to discussions. This reinforced the importance of interactive and student-centered teaching methods. One of the most fulfilling aspects of this week was the strong rapport I had built with my students. The trust and camaraderie we developed over the weeks were evident in our interactions. Students were comfortable sharing their thoughts and seeking help, which created a supportive and collaborative learning environment. This experience underscored the importance of building positive relationships in education.
Teaching practice has been a journey of emotional growth and resilience. This week, I faced the bittersweet task of saying goodbye to my students. Their appreciation and kind words were touching and reaffirmed my passion for teaching. The emotional connections made and the challenges overcome have strengthened my resolve to pursue a career in education.
