PHASE 2-WEEK 4
Day 15 started with a morning assembly. In my classes , I taught the chapter “We’re the World”. I showed meanings of difficult words using flashcards. I then divided the class into various group and asked them to conduct a group recitation of the song in the next class. On day 16, I made the students sing the song. They did their best in trying to resemble the rhythm and tune of the actual song. On day 17, there was some poster making and quiz competitions held in relation to the upcoming World Population Day. I went there and volunteered these sessions. In my class, I made students form groups, discuss and write the answers to the textual questions from the chapter. On day 18, there was morning assemble to commemorate World Population Day. A mime was conducted by the students of tenth grade to spread awareness on the harmful impacts of increasing population. In my classes, I provided entry activity related to the next chapter A shipwrecked Sailor. I introduced to them the term ‘shipwreck’ and it’s meaning by talking about the film Titanic. This helped to arouse their curiosity and interest in learning the new chapter. I showed them pictures related to the story as well as the profile chart of the author. On Day 19, it was sports day. It began by a lamp lighting ceremony at 9 30 am, followed by an inauguration speech by the chief guest Ashwin- a national level sports champion. The various events such as running races, shot put, discuss throw and javelin throw were conducted at a nearby ground. Majority of students participated and performed exceptionally well . I had duty at the starting and finishing point of running tracks; arranging students and writing the names of those who have won.
During the 4th week, I noticed a significant increase in student engagement, particularly during interactive activities like group discussions and role-plays. Developing positive relationships with students has been a key focus. By taking the time to understand their interests, strengths, and challenges, I have created a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
Leading or supporting various activities on sports day helped me practice leadership skills and learn how to motivate and guide students in a non-academic setting. Working with fellow teachers and staff to organize and run sports day helped me understand the importance of teamwork and collaboration in a school environment. Experiencing the enthusiasm and challenges of sports day helped me to empathize with students and support their emotional and social development.
